Mr. Andrew Currier, Principal

Andrew Currier returns to elementary administration in his first year as part of the St. Joseph’s Catholic School community. Mr. Currier previously taught American Literature at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, VA where he also coached baseball for the nationally ranked program. Mr. Currier received his master’s degree in Education from the University of Notre Dame and earned a B.A. in English at Grand Valley State University where he also lettered as a varsity baseball player. Mr. Currier has taught in Los Angeles, Miami, and in rural France.
Mrs. Petralia, Algebra

Mrs. Carolyn Petralia rejoins the St. Joseph's Regional Catholic School faculty after having previously served in the same role several years ago. Mrs. Petralia received her bachelors degree in Mathematics from the Catholic University of America. In addition, Mrs. Petralia received her Juris Doctorate from Catholic University's Columbus School of Law and practiced for several years before becoming a teacher. Mrs. Petralia is a St. Joseph's Parishioner..
Mrs. Dyer, Art

Mrs. Dyer received her B.A. in sculpture from Florida State University. She attended graduate school at the University of Alabama and Tulane University.
She has over 20 years of teaching art at St. Joseph's School.
Mrs. Dyer was Teacher of the Year in 2004.
Mr. Martens, Band

Mr. Martens received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education K-12 from Messiah College, Grantham PA, in 1977. He began teaching at St. Joseph's School in September 1981. Since then he has led the band to consistent "Superior" ratings at the Archdiocesan Band Festival, and in 1997 the band was named "The Outstanding Catholic Elementary School Band in the United States" in a tape festival sponsored by the National Catholic Bandmasters Association. He
has over 28 years of teaching at St. Joseph's.
Mr. Nguyen, Music

Mr. Nguyen recently graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County,
where he studied trumpet performance and education. He is currently
working on a Master's in music education at the University of
Maryland. Having grown up in the Archdiocese of Washington, Mr.
Nguyen attended Holy Cross Elementary and continued on at St. John's
College High School. He has been the music teacher at St. Joseph's
since August 2008, and also teaches music at St. Catherine Laboure in
Wheaton, MD.
Mr. Murray, Physical Education

Mr. Murray received his B.S. degree from East Carolina University. He worked for 2 years for Prince Georges County Public Schools.
Since August, 2004, he has been teaching at St. Joseph's School. He also teaches at St. Mary's in Rockville. Mr. Murray also coaches swimming at St. John's College High School and in the local community.
Mrs. O'Brien, Resource Teacher

Mrs. O'Brien received her BS in Elementary Education, K-8, from Syracuse University. She taught 5th and 6th grade Reading and Science at St. Joseph's before becoming their Resource Teacher in 1988. She received her Masters degree in Reading and Learning Disabilities from Trinity University. Mrs. O'Brien has been at St. Joseph's for
30 years and was our Teacher of the Year in 2006.
Mrs. Vargas, Spanish

Mrs. Katia Vargas joins us in her first year of teaching for the 2011/2012 school year. Mrs. Vargas has two daughters at St. Joseph's School. She is from Costa Rica and studied International Law. Mrs. Vargas is a St. Joseph's Parishioner.
Mrs. Dhanagom, Technology

Having had a Bachelors Degree in Commercial Art--working with graphic design, and also taking advanced math courses, Mrs. Dhanagom was further interested in delving more into computers and technology. Having earned her certification in Computers from Bowie State University, and
having come to teach at St. Joseph's, she has continued to advance in technological courses throughout the years of teaching here at St. Joseph's School.
She began teaching here in August, 2002. She was Teacher of the Year
in 2005.
