Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan and raised Catholic in a family committed to serving others, Fr. Andrew graduated from Albion College and then came to Washington, DC where he worked in area social service agencies through his participation in the Jesuit Volunteer Corp. After completing a year in JVC, he attended the University of Michigan where he earned degrees in law and public policy before returning to Washington. After working as an attorney for a couple of years, he entered the seminary and attended St. John Paul II Seminary and Theological College, through which he earned his theological degrees from The Catholic University of America. During his time in the seminary, Fr. Andrew completed pastoral placements in various archdiocesan parishes, a L’Arche community, and at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, and he participated in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Fr. Andrew was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Washington by Cardinal Wuerl in 2017, and he served as parochial vicar at Annunciation Catholic Church in Northwest Washington and assistant chaplain at George Washington University before being assigned as administrator at St. Joseph Parish by Archbishop Gregory in July, 2019.
Father Wimmer has increased his involvement in the Sacramental ministry and other activities of the parish. He continues his work as professor, editor, and author. He received degrees from Villanova University, Catholic University, Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome, Gregorian University, Rome. He has published numerous articles, including in The Catholic Biblical Quarterly and The Word Among Us.
Deacon Chris Schwartz was ordained to the Deaconate June of 2010. For many years, he has been extensively involved in Prison Ministry in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. He served in our parish music ministry in the 1970’s from the mid 1970´s to the mid 1990´s. He routinely visits the sick. and is involved in the Liturgical life of the parish. He conducts Baptisms, wakes and (non-Mass) Weddings within the parish. He also works full time for the Federal government. He and his wife Pam have been active parishioners in the parish for over 35 years.
Mr. Warren Taylor, a graduate of the Education for Parish Service Program, is our parish Sacristan. He is responsible for the effective preparation of each Liturgical celebration. With his wife Rose, he oversees the liturgical books, the vestments, and other things necessary in the celebration of the Sacraments. He coordinates the various Liturgical ministries and oversees the physical environment of our church. Most of what you see in our parish Worship is due to his thoughtful planning and preparation.
Laurel Montoya, a wife and mother of three children; is the Director of Religious Education (DRE) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She also teaches Middle school Religion at the parish school, helping her serve as liaison between school and parish. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Mexico in 1995. Her teaching experience began at Queen of Heaven Elementary School in Albuquerque, New Mexico during the 1995-1996 school year. She expanded her experience by working with the Human Ecology Department at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. While teaching early childhood education from 1996-1999, she earned a Master’s Degree in early childhood education from Salisbury State University in 1998. She has been with St. Joseph’s School since August, 2000.
Ms. Marie Bohorfoush works as part of our front office team. She composes the weekly Bulletin, schedules events, coordinates with the school, tracks contributions, and oversees the smooth administrative functioning of the parish. She is originally from Alabama, a Maronite Catholic and an active and involved parishioner in most aspects of parish life. With her husband, she is also involved in the Knights of Columbus.
